colors conquered,
hues weary retreat -
azure waves wane;
august’s sapphire
pale blue in soft
winter light
seagulls silenced,
stillness sounds loud -
noise recedes with tide;
july’s playground
rests quiet
when vacationers vacate
sandcastles smoothened,
shoreline undisturbed -
unsifted by child's hands;
summer footprints
fade as seaweed lines
mark tides of desolation
acrid air bites,
taste bittersweet -
beach grass remains yet;
fall harvest
leaves behind no
winter fruit
landscape languished,
scent grows cold -
barren roots claw;
spring verdure
folds hands to
unprotected openness
action abated,
homes lie still -
occupants withdrawn contemplate;
December mirror
glimmers with reflections
of introspection
staring at the tidal pool
drawn to the rocks
submerged within this
rugged beauty of a
seashore in rough season

strengthened again
by contradictions

this place where
none else came
couldn’t be
more beautiful
